Bonus Photo of the Week: Portrait of my father (Gum Bichromate Print)

Gum bichromate is a simple and old photographic process, but it can be tricky.

It works by the same process that old stickers that have been exposed to sunlight get hard to remove. You can suspend whatever pigment you like in the gum arabic solution. You can use any colour as long as it won’t stain the paper too much. I find that powdered charcoal can provide a subtle and beautiful result.

This is a small portrait on watercolour paper with charcoal as the pigment for the print.
