ARTWORKING

This is not the best time to write that book (but maybe you can do it anyway)

If you can use the disruption that you are experiencing to create new positive habits. Great. Go for it. Wake up at 4:30 every morning, do your yoga, eat your almond milk muesli, and crack out a relaxing 1000 words before most people are out bed. If on the other hand, you are distracted by constantly changing rules, responsibilities, and exponential graphs, maybe give yourself a break.

One of the themes I have repeated in this blog is that the game of all of this, trying to be creative, trying to succeed at difficult tasks, trying to create something that no one asked you to create, is to just keep showing up. I have spoken to several people who have been thinking about this time as an opportunity to write, but have realized that the mental state of distraction, discomfort, and unfamiliarity is probably not really a great situation to write.

But maybe it doesn’t matter.

When I started this blog I had a low bar for what a post could be. I have lowered it a few times since then, or at least changed what I thought I was supposed to be doing, but I am still showing up. If you can find a way that makes it easy for you to keep showing up during all of this, just do that. And if you wanted to write that book. you can still do it even if this isn’t the best time to write it.
